Diet according to your blood group

Person A- Do you know a recent study has shown that each person’s food intake should be according to his/her blood group.
Person B- Well, I don’t think it’s true. It seems like a superstition to me.
This is the general reaction when people hear that blood groups should ideally alter the food choices of an individual. Well, one cannot deny that it does sound a little bizarre. Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo has introduced an interesting theory behind the Blood Type Diet in his book ‘Maximise Your Health with the Blood Type Diet’. Dr. D'Adamo states that the food type can be segregated according to the blood groups. "A person's blood type reflects on his/ her internal system. Their blood type in fact regulates the way their body absorbs nutrients from the food they eat. Healthy eating majorly depends upon the way the body reacts towards metabolizing a particular food type. I recommend to eat according to your blood type in order to stay fit and healthy," says Neeraj Mehta, a fitness instructor and nutritionist. Thus it is prudent to atleast modify your diet to some extent according to your blood group.
Let’s have a look at various blood groups and the most suitable food choices for them.

1.    Blood group O
The most suitable diet for people having blood group O is a diet rich in proteins and carbohydrates. According to Dr. D'Adamo, the primary reason for weight gain among Type O's is the gluten found in wheat products, corn, kidney beans, and cabbage. Type O’s should include lean beef meat, lamb, turkey and chicken in their diet. They should also eat egg, nuts and seeds. Ideal exercises for Type O's include aerobics, martial arts, contact sports, and running.

2.     Blood group A
Blood type A’s should follow a vegetarian diet but still avoid dairy products. People, who belong to blood group A, may be lactose intolerant. This should include nuts, seeds, beans, cereals, pasta, rice, fruits in their diet Meanwhile, calming exercises are thought to be best for blood type A’s such as yoga or golf. Vegetable oils, Soya foods, pineapple and vegetables are some of the foods that help in weight loss. Meat, Dairy foods, Lima/kidney beans should be avoided.

3.     Blood group B
People falling under this group can easily adapt themselves to new climates Type B’s are normally relaxed and have an individualistic kind of nature. They also have a strong immune system to fight against diseases. Sesame seeds, Lentils, Corn, peanuts, wheat are not recommended if they wish to lose weight. Green vegetables improve bowel movements so those should be eaten in good amount. Goat meat, lamb and mutton can improve the rate of metabolism.

4.    Blood group AB
Blood group AB is the least common among all blood groups. Many experts have pointed out that those who fall under this blood group are rather difficult to read, since they are volatile. The most suitable diet for Type AB’s is fibre-rich diet that comprises of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. The fibre also helps in digestion and is supportive in weight loss. Green vegetables, seafood and tofu can also bring about an improvement in the bowel movements. Sesame seeds, corn, buckwheat, lima beans, kidney beans, Red meat should be seldom eaten.
