Alternatives of Biriyani to tickle the taste buds


That delicacy that is sumptuous on your plate and lip-smacking good on your palate. A recipe that is passed down from mother to daughter and is every amateur chef’s delight once it has been mastered. The only reason many a people have admitted to attending weddings and a bride’s ticket to being the perfect daughter-in-law. The obvious operating word here is Biriyani. This very rich recipe of the south that requires a long list of ingredients which includes meat and spices to make it decent enough requires no introduction to its popularity throughout India. But what if there was more to Biriyani? What if there were a dish that tastes just as good and looks just as good? Fortunately, for you we have gathered a list of dishes that equals the flavor and deliciousness that is a plate of Biriyani.

Ever heard of the Haleem? Some people call it the watered down version of Biriyani. Its richness comes from the various dry fruits, shredded meat and spices that is packed in this Arab stew. This delicacy of Hyderabad that used to be favored by Nizams decades back could easily rival our classic Biriyani with its richness and flavor.

How is your EspaƱol?
The Prawn & Chicken Paella is a mean treat for all those meat eaters out there. This Spanish dish is usually made with Prawns (but of course) rabbit meat, chicken and snail. Pulao is definitely the vegetarian version of a Biriyani. It has all the ingredients required to make one except for one important detail; the meat. For all the health freaks out this yummy assortment of vegetables and spices, this is a healthy and delicious way to go if one wants to count their calories.

Think, hot sauces, chicken, egg, capsicum and steaming rice all in one bowl. AND it is all fried! A feast for confessed junkies, this dish is a sure way to satisfy your palate.
Tangy to the dot.
Tamarind rice, otherwise known as Puliyogare, this spicy and mouth wateringly sour rice dish which includes peanuts, curry leaves and of course a load of Tamarind is everyone’s answer to a sour food craving.

So there you have it folks… Biriyani as you see is not the answer to all your cravings.
