Specialfoodz’s list of salads.

A full course meal consists of an appetizer, the main course, the dessert and salad. Now, the salad is the unknown, uncared for, bit in our opinion, when a full course is before us. But we at specialfoodz are here to drive all that unfamiliarity away and introduce you to a host of salads made in countries from across the world. Do stick around to go through our list.

Caesar Salad – Inspired by the all famous Roman statesman, Julius Caesar, this Mexican salad is an all-greens mixture of Garlic Croutons, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce, parmesan cheese, lemon juice, Romaine lettuce, black pepper and anchovies. The eggs are whisked into the mixture of tangy flavored spice and greens to give it a fluffy and yummy feel.

Bean Salad – Although Indians do often make bean salad, it is not necessarily called by that name. This salad is a mixture of yellow wax beans and green beans and added to it is cooked chickpeas, raw beetroot and more beans! (I mean, kidney beans). The entire mixture is marinated with sugar, oil and vinegar. Now isn’t that delicious?

Arab Salad – The land of the sauces has churned forth a salad fit for its saucy status… The Arab salad which is a part of Arab Cuisine, packs a mean punch with its vegetable salad dressing. It is made using a combination of spices, sauces and very healthy vegetables.

Ambrosia salad – This could well be a combination made in heaven. Imagine marsh mellows, sour cream, sweetened whipped cream, mandarin oranges (those little ones), pineapple and coconut all in one bowl? That is what you get in a neatly laid out Ambrosia salad. To add to that, this American origin salad could have strawberries and raspberries, used as an accompaniment, which of course makes this very lip-smacking, delicious thing, more worth the earning.

Tomato-Peach salad – Although this isn’t necessarily a salad that is specific to one country, it’s natural goodness will draw you in, no matter its source. A combination of peach wedges (so zesty!), red tomato slices, olive oil and cider vinegar with a seasoning of pepper, salt AND sugar is sure to play with your taste buds.

Asian Apple Slaw – As the name is proof, this Asian salad is a mix of salt with lime juice, rice vinegar (imagine that J), sugar and… wait for it… FISH SAUCE! We don’t know about you guys but we sure do love our fish… And to all this is added, slices of apple, mint and chopped scallions.

Chicken-Mango salad – Now who doesn’t love mango? And who doesn’t love chicken is the better question. Well we’ve got news for you. We’ve got both for you. Yes, that’s right. And all in one bowl too. Now isn’t that fun? This salad is a combo of honey, olive oil, lemon juice, grated ginger, shredded grill chicken (oh the mouthwatering never stops), greens and of course, diced mango.

Oranges with Mozzarella – This we agree is a very strange combination of food, we agree. But we should try it nevertheless, in the spirit of salad making perhaps. Basil leaves and orange slices will be stacked with Mozzarella cheese and sprinkled with the usual salt, pepper and olive oil. Now stop wasting time and go try it yourself.

Japanese Radish salad – Although we Indians are known to cook literally EVERY vegetable we can get your hands on, radishes included (even when they are in a salad), this salad aint having none of those cooked stuff. This one is healthy all the way. Baby greens and scallions are placed on a layer of watermelon radish slices and to this is added grated ginger, mirin, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, (yes, the list is endless, I know), vegetable oi, sesame, and finally, salt.

So there you have it folks, specialfoodz’s very own list of salads for any occasion. Do try them all out J
