Desi Pizzas and burgers.

Many are aware of how sought after, Indian food is, especially in North America. Everybody wants to have a go at spicy chicken wings, varieties of hot curry or Indian chillie sauce. And then we have our fellow brothers turning western cuisine to their taste and liking. Here we bring to your notice, the various and we must say, innovative ways that Indians have adopted to remerge western dishes with an Indian flourish, adding to it a zing and multitude of flavors that westerners would never have dreamt of ever tasting. So, we at specialfoodz bring to you our very own form of the classic pizza and burger pattie turned baddie to suit the stomachs of all Desis alike.

Tawa Pizza – Ditch the oven and take to the oven we say! As a rebellion to the existence of what is a classic pizza (they are usually made in ovens people), we The Indians have come up with an easy strategy to make those soulful baked goods. After the base is complete, all doughed up and rolled out, all one has to do is fill up the base with vegetables like capsicum (bell pepper), corn, onion, tomato, and mozzarella cheese, your choice of herbs (we recommend all the herbs you’ve got, let the spices lead supreme we say), olive oil and of course the spicy pizza sauce at the base. Now all you need to do is preheat the Tawa and place the pizza on it, cover it and let it cook. And there you have it. Your very own Indian pizza. As to garnishing it, or adding toppings there is a variety of choices before as we Indians don’t hesitate in using up all resources ever available to us. Your toppings could also include paneer (curdled cheese), grilled pieces of chicken, salami, peas, mushroom and whatever else you think will likely suit your tastes.

Aloo Tikki Burger – Another creation of the people of south Asia, (we refer to the Desi gang), the Aloo Tikki Burger is the dream of all potato lovers alike. Why you ask? Because the pattie is entirely made of just potatoes with garnish to make the patties even more delectable than it already is. Along with the Aloo, one can add, chillie sauce, onion, and tomato to seal the deal. Best eaten hot, this is the delicacy most sought after at roadside eateries.

Vada Pav – The steaming Vada Pav. Oh, the smells it emits itself will draw you in. And if that hasn’t caught your fancy buckle up to witness what and Indi Burger would look like. First off, bread is squarish in shape and is not the usual round bread that you find burgers being made out of. The pattie itself consists of potato (again? Yeah…), fried, mashed, spicy potato at that and deep fried gram flour batter. This stuff is the food of the common man in Mumbai. And many others not necessarily from the city swear by it because of its unique flavor and the fact that you will never find this sort of a savory anywhere else but in India. There is also an accompaniment to this exquisite snack, and they are the green chutney (the spiced up one, trust us, it’s hot) and the red chutney (very sweet to taste, almost sinfully sweet we could say). So there you have it folk. The complete explanation of what a vada pav is, in its essence.

There are several variations of what makes up an Indian/desi pizza or a desi burger. One can add any number of ingredients such as spices, herbs, vegetables, sauces and chutneys to make their very own special dish or snack. But in essence of course, it is the same as we have listed out. We hope you have a fun time trying out these snacks if you already have not done so.
